Connor's Vows

Alice, we stand between parks, hills, and trails,
Surrounded by friends, loved ones, memories and tales,
And in this environ I give you my vow,
A promise of love given here, given now

I vow with my hand to be honest and true,
To trust what you say and support what you do,
And even your nonsense to set up a pun,
I’d rather you fool me than give up the fun

I vow constant self care and aid in yours too,
To travel in health til we’re both ninety-two,
We’ll roam and we’ll wander through canyon and street,
Small grins and loud laughter for all that we meet

I vow comfort and solace when nights are too long,
Your man to share troubles, when you’re weak to be strong,
For you are my anchor, rock, mooring and home,
To keep me from falling to places unknown,

You’ve written me poems, and I’ve written for you,
Secrets in odd meter and odd rhyming too,
But words on this roof are as public can be,
I’ll stay always with you, if you’ll stay with me

Alice's Vows

Connor, I Alice, do vow to for all time,
To protect you, provide for you, love you as mine
Both when we’re together and when we’re apart
I commit all my being: my head, hands, and heart

When fortunes are fickle, I’ll endure each rain
Give more weight to joy than I’ll focus in pain
I vow to be diligent, honest, and wise
In making and keeping both household and ties

Yet, I vow not to checklist each hour and day
Or work without stopping to frolic and play
I promise the goal of my efforts will be
Adventure, to cherish our lives and be free

As I grow in this world, I’ll be seeking to find
Moments to share that are warm, sweet, and kind
Together we’ll strengthen and as your best friend
I know we’ll mess up, but I vow we will mend 

Your focus is precious, and often not mine,
You don’t always hear me and I think that’s fine
I’ll honor your passions, and interests, and space
I'll accept who you are and your daydreams with grace

Each day and each Connor you are is enough
